Make a Joyful Noise

Make a Joyful Noise

Do you know the feeling of riding in a car with the windows rolled down, your favorite song on the radio, and you singing at the top of your lungs as you go down the road?  For me this is pure joy!  There’s something about singing that is magical and whether it is alone or in a group, when we blend our voices together in song there is beauty beyond words.

One of the scriptures that captures this idea of beauty and joy in song is Psalm 100 where David pens the following:

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

I can imagine the smile on David’s face as he prepared to enter the temple to worship God.  Just the thought of all that God had blessed him with caused the joy to spring up in his heart and the only way he could release it was to sing.

What would our worship look like this week if we approached it with the same uninhibited joy of singing in a car with the windows down?  God invites us to bring that same sense of joy every time that we come into his presence.  So this week, let the joy in your heart overflow in your song and together let us make a joyful noise unto the Lord.
